This scene is part of the fresco cycle depicting the story of life of St Peter. It shows Peter being awoken by the Angel and taken out of his cell, while the guard is sound asleep and notices nothing.

The fresco was originally attributed to to Masaccio. Since the nineteenth century all critics agree in the attribution to Filippino.
